On television, he directed multiple episodes of popular 1990s sitcoms including A Different World, The Parent 'Hood, The Wayans Bros., and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. He also directed an episode of the American Prime Time Soap Opera, "Dynasty" in 1983. In theater, Turman directed the play Deadwood Dick at the Inner City Cultural Center, for which he received an NAACP Image Award.
